March 16, Kathmandu – At least 23 people have died and more than 100 others were injured in a series of devastating explosions in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The incident occurred on Tuesday, according to international media outlet Al Jazeera.
Local police have suggested that the blasts may have been caused by suicide bombers. In addition, authorities reported successfully defusing three other explosive devices.
The explosions took place near the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, a local market, and outside the post office.
The city has been under heightened tension following previous attacks, including an assault on a military base and a bombing at a mosque last December.
Fighter groups Boko Haram and the rival jihadist faction Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have recently intensified their attacks in northeastern Nigeria.
