March 16, Kathmandu – The National Judo Association under the Nepal Sports Association (Necos) is organizing the 8th international judo competition, with B & T Trading Company Limited from Hokkaido, Japan, serving as the main sponsor.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Dharma Kumar Shrestha, President of the organizing committee, and Vishnu Giri, CEO of B & T Trading, signed the sponsorship agreement. According to the agreement, B & T will provide the organizers with funds equivalent to NPR 2 million in Japanese yen.
The three-day competition, scheduled from March 21 to 23, will feature a total of 35 events across the cadet and junior categories. In the cadet division, there will be 21 events—11 for males under 18 years and 10 for females under 18. The junior category, for athletes aged 18 to 21, will have 7 events each for men and women.
Athletes from various provinces, districts, clubs, schools, and dojos across Nepal will participate, alongside competitors from Bhutan and Bangladesh. President Shrestha stated that approximately 300 athletes from the three nations will take part in the competition.
The team securing the top three positions will be awarded cash prizes of NPR 15,000, 10,000, and 5,000 respectively. In previous seven editions, Nepal’s prisoner welfare organization (PAM) team has consistently retained the championship title. The best two male and two female athletes will each receive a cash prize of NPR 5,000.
According to President Shrestha, insurance worth NPR 500,000 has been arranged for all participating athletes and officials. The organizers will also provide comprehensive arrangements for meals, accommodation, and transportation. The overall budget for hosting the event is expected to be around NPR 3.1 million.
All matches during the three-day competition will take place at the multipurpose Martial Arts Center (MMAC) in Khusibund. On the first day, 9 gold medal events will take place, while on the second and third days, 13 gold medal events each are scheduled.
