March 16, Janakpurdhām – The government of Madhesh Province, led by Chief Minister Krishnaprasad Yadav, completed 100 days in office on Tuesday. Yadav assumed the role of Chief Minister on December 7.
On the occasion of completing 100 days in office, Chief Minister Yadav held a press conference to announce the government’s achievements during this period.
Yadav explained that the initial days were challenging due to the incomplete appointment of ministers, the enforcement of election codes of conduct, and the ongoing process of forming the federal government.
Despite these challenges, he claimed the government has advanced work based on 51 reforms across various sectors.
In health, the Janakpur Provincial Hospital has implemented a system allowing patients to book tickets from home to manage crowding. Payment of fees has been simplified through banking services, and laboratory reports are now available online, the Chief Minister asserted.
In education, under the ‘One Model School per Electoral Constituency’ program, work has commenced in the first phase at 15 community schools, with a minimum investment of NPR 5 million allocated per school.
Prioritizing the agricultural sector, arrangements have been made to ensure the supply of fertilizers and necessary materials ahead of the upcoming rice planting season in Ashar, and a proposal has been sent to the federal government to reinstate the subsidy on fertilizers.
For irrigation management, an expert team has been established to conduct hydrogeological studies to identify underground irrigation zones. Furthermore, policies have been formulated and initiated to address the issue of declining groundwater levels, as stated in his achievement report.
On tourism promotion, the longstanding stalled process to inscribe the Janaki Temple as a UNESCO World Heritage Site has been advanced. Infrastructure development under the ‘Five Kilometers of Road per Electoral Constituency’ initiative has completed its first phase, with preparations underway to begin the second phase.
The achievement report also mentions that budget arrangements for the construction of the Ram-Janaki Stadium are in progress. The Indian government has pledged NPR 1.6 billion in support, and negotiations with the federal government for the remaining funds are ongoing.
Regarding forest management, despite limited forest areas within the province, measures have been taken to stop the wastefulness of timber such as Dhala and Panda wood, with plans to distribute this wood among the public.
Chief Minister Yadav expressed confidence that these achievements, accomplished under challenging circumstances, will be implemented more effectively going forward to benefit the people.
He recalled that when he took responsibility, the Chief Minister’s office had been burned during the Janajati agitation, forcing him to start work from a single room within the Home Ministry.
However, most of the 51 achievements highlighted by Chief Minister Yadav remain incomplete.
