Chief Justice Claims Judicial System Is Gradually Returning to Normalcy

March 18, Nepalgunj – Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has stated that due to improved coordination within the judiciary, the judicial system is gradually returning to normalcy. Speaking during a discussion with legal professionals in Nepalgunj on Wednesday, he shared his views on judicial governance, the management of case files that were destroyed by fire, and improving public perception of the courts.
The Chief Justice highlighted that, following the protests by the Janajati community that led to case files being burned, prioritizing the management of these files and revitalizing the judiciary has been a key focus. He informed that approximately 20,000 case files were destroyed in the Supreme Court, but so far, 19,000 have been restored. For the restoration of files damaged in district courts, he is coordinating with the Office of the Attorney General at the central level.
Noting that smooth functioning of the courts brings satisfaction among legal professionals, Chief Justice Raut urged collaboration with the legal community to restore case files and ensure effective administration of justice.
He acknowledged that a negative public perception towards the judiciary may have contributed to the burning of courts, emphasizing the need to review this issue carefully.
Addressing the question of why the judiciary and courts have gained a negative image in changing times, he stressed the importance of serious reflection on this matter.
Furthermore, he emphasized that both courts and legal professionals must adapt themselves according to evolving circumstances. – RASAS
