4 Chaitra, Kathmandu – The Third Bagmati Province Sports Competition is scheduled to take place during the last week of Jestha 2083 (May 2026).
At the 24th board meeting of the Bagmati Province Sports Development Council held on Wednesday in Kathmandu, it was decided to hold the competition from Jestha 24 to 30 (May 7 to 13, 2026). The council also approved the inaugural Bagmati Para Sports Competition.
Additionally, the council resolved to organize the Bagmati Province level President’s Running Shield competition from Jestha 1 to 3 (mid-April 2026), according to Deepak Lama, Member Secretary of the Provincial Sports Development Council. The meeting further agreed on establishing a sports museum.
Fifteen sports disciplines will be contested at the Third Bagmati Province Sports Competition, including football, volleyball, karate, ITF taekwondo, taekwondo, wushu, judo, full-contact karate, cricket, badminton, boxing, athletics, chess, swimming, and table tennis.
The event will feature 2,955 athletes and 126 officials, totaling 4,161 participants. Football will involve 360 players, 40 coaches and managers, and 20 referees. Volleyball will have 312 players; karate, 218; ITF taekwondo, 218; taekwondo, 262; wushu, 159; judo, 138; full-contact karate, 130; cricket, 224; badminton, 78; boxing, 170; athletics, 455; chess, 78; swimming, 75; and table tennis, 78 athletes.
Member Secretary Lama also stated that NPR 132 million (13.2 crore) has been allocated for the Third Bagmati Province Sports Competition.
Meanwhile, the President’s Running Shield will feature 1,222 players competing in karate, volleyball, taekwondo, wushu, kabaddi, and athletics.
