March 19, Kathmandu – A case has been filed against four individuals on charges of corruption in connection with actor Rajesh Hamal’s name.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) lodged the case at a special court pertaining to corruption involving the Dhakari Rural Municipality in Achham. The case centers on the alleged misuse of Hamal’s image for a documentary, involving a sum of NPR 1,277,250.
Those accused are Rural Municipality Chair Prakash Bahadur Saud, Acting Chief Administrative Officer Laxman Sah, Accountant Bimal Saud, and Ramji Lamsal, Chairperson of the Nav Indreni Foundation. They face charges of embezzling public property and corruption.
Even though a budget allocation of NPR 1.5 million had been made for the film project using Rajesh Hamal’s name, only NPR 1,277,250 was reportedly disbursed, according to the CIAA.
The CIAA also highlighted breaches of the Public Procurement Act and its regulations in relation to the case.
The commission has demanded the deposit of a security deposit equal to the amount involved in the corruption, totaling NPR 1,277,250, along with additional punishments.
