On Sunday morning, at the Gaurifanta border, police apprehended the auto rickshaw driver who took an unusually high fare from Sunita Kumal, a resident of Budhiganga Municipality-8 in Bajura, as she returned from India. A team from the District Traffic Police Office arrested driver Keshav Singh Rawal and his associate Bhugaliram Chaudhary. Traffic Police Inspector Resham Prasad Acharya stated that both were handed over to the District Police Office for further action.
According to Inspector Acharya, both confessed to charging 1,500 Indian rupees for transporting Kumal from Gaurifanta border to the Dhangadhi bus park. They also admitted to carrying Kumal’s bag from Gaurifanta border to Bari and took the money as compensation for that service. District Police Office spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yogendra Timilsina confirmed that the two are in custody and investigations are ongoing.
Timilsina added that because the victim from Bajura has already traveled on, a formal complaint has not been filed for legal action. However, preparations are underway to refund the amount. Police indicated that if a complaint is lodged, further action will be taken; otherwise, they plan to resolve the matter through mediation and release the suspects.
