Under the proportional representation system, parties that secured at least three percent of the total valid votes include the RSP, Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), Nepal Communist Party, Labour Culture Party, and National Democratic Party, all of which have been allocated seats in the proportional category.
The publication of direct election results is done only after counting votes in the relevant constituencies, as per the prescribed provisions.
Chapter 60 of the House of Representatives Member Election Act, 2074, outlines provisions regarding the results of the proportional representation electoral system. Sub-section 11 of that chapter states, “Only parties that secure three percent or more of the total valid votes in the proportional representation system shall have candidates elected.”
An earlier mistake stating that a party must win one direct seat to receive proportional seats was acknowledged as an error and has been corrected.
However, Section 52 of the Political Parties Act, 2072, requires parties to meet these conditions in order to receive national party recognition.
In the proportional representation system, a special mathematical formula is used to determine the number of seats allocated to parties.
