The Pakistan Super League 2026 will be held without spectators and restricted to just Lahore and Karachi. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that if the situation improves, spectators might be allowed during the final stages. Due to increasing fuel shortages caused by the ongoing crisis, the PCB has announced refunds for ticket holders and compensation for franchise teams incurring losses.
Kathmandu, March 21 – The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 is set to proceed without any spectators this time. Considering the ongoing crisis in West Asia, the tournament will be limited to only Lahore and Karachi. Although plans initially included matches across six cities in the eastern region, security concerns and fuel shortages have led to a reduction in venues. Consequently, the proposed opening ceremony in Lahore has also been cancelled.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi explained, “If conditions improve, spectators may be permitted during the tournament’s final stages.” He also acknowledged that the duration of the crisis remains uncertain.
In the past, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have caused fuel supply challenges, which have exacerbated Pakistan’s fuel shortage. The government has urged citizens to reduce travel, closed schools, promoted work-from-home policies, and extended holiday periods. Given these circumstances, the PCB deemed it appropriate to conduct the tournament behind closed doors.
Furthermore, the PCB has committed to refunding ticket holders and compensating franchise teams for their losses. There is also a promise to expand the tournament to cities that will not host matches this year in the next season.
Notably, Nepalese cricketer Dipendra Singh Airee will be participating in the PSL, representing Islamabad United.
