
Kathmandu – The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has decided to legally and politically oppose the arrest of its party chairman, KP Sharma Oli. In a secretariat meeting held today, the party resolved to demand the immediate release of Chairman Oli and to stage protests in response.
According to UML secretary Mahesh Basnet, protest demonstrations will be held today at 3 PM in the headquarters of each district on behalf of the party’s mass organizations.
The decisions taken by UML include the following –
1. To strongly oppose the arrest both legally and politically with the support of the general public and civil society.
2. To conduct protest demonstrations today at 3 PM in the headquarters of each district on behalf of the party’s mass organizations.
3. To organize extensive protests tomorrow, Chaitra 15, at 12 noon at each district, where district party committees will submit protest letters to the Chief District Officer (CDO) offices.
4. To engage in dialogue and cooperation with all parties supporting democracy and the rule of law, as well as with civil society and the general public.
While the secretariat meeting was underway at Chyasal in Lalitpur, UML activists gathered and held a brief protest in the Chabahil area of Kathmandu.
The police arrested UML Chairman Oli and Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak this morning following the decision to implement the report of the incident inquiry commission related to the Jenajee movement.
