March 26, Kathmandu – The third edition of the ‘Tikapur Literary Festival 2082’ is commencing today. The festival is being jointly organized by the Tikapur Literary Society and the Sudurpashchim Academy, and is set to take place in the cultural city of Tikapur.
Running until March 28, this three-day event aims to present various facets of language, literature, arts, culture, and local life on a single platform. Organizers expect it to evolve into a nationally recognized literary and cultural celebration.
The third edition is centered around the theme of the ‘Tharu Literature and Cultural Festival.’ Its primary objective is to showcase the rich originality, traditions, folk life, language, literature, arts, culture, and lifestyle of Nepal’s Tharu community at a national level.
Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen and sustain the literary and cultural identity of Sudurpashchim Province while promoting a national message of multilingual and multicultural coexistence, organizers expressed with confidence.
During the festival, 27 sessions covering diverse topics will be conducted. These sessions will feature in-depth discussions, debates, and interactions on language, literature, arts, music, local life, history, identity, politics, society, and contemporary issues.
The participation of renowned linguists, writers, artists, intellectuals, journalists, researchers, and cultural activists from across the country is anticipated to enrich and lend dignity to the festival, said founding coordinator Mahesh Bikram Shah.
The first series of the third edition includes a water retreat event on the Karnali River and a Tharu cultural dance performance. The second series features street theater, writing workshops, and a provincial-level poetry festival.
The third series will present theatrical performances, Tharu folk culture showcases, intellectual dialogues, poetry and ghazal recitations, musical programs, along with Deuda singing and sports activities native to Sudurpashchim.
