Sunrisers Hyderabad Secures Their First IPL Victory, Kolkata Knight Riders Suffer Second Consecutive Defeat

Summary: Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved their first win in IPL cricket by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders. Hyderabad posted a total of 226 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. In the match held on Thursday night, Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 65 runs. This marked Kolkata’s second consecutive defeat. Chasing a huge target of 227 runs at their home ground Eden Gardens, Kolkata collapsed, getting all out for 161 in just 16 overs.

Opening batsman Finn Allen started aggressively by hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours to dismiss David Payne in the first over, scoring 25 runs in that over alone. Allen then added one more four before getting out at 28 runs from 7 balls. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed early for 8 runs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored a half-century, making 52 runs off 29 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Rinku Singh contributed 35 runs.

For Hyderabad, Jaydev Unadkat took 3 wickets conceding 21 runs in 3 overs. Ishan Malinga and Nitish Kumar Reddy claimed 2 wickets each, while Harsh Dubey took 1 wicket. Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, Hyderabad set a target of 226 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen scored 52 runs off 35 balls. Abhishek Sharma made 48 runs off 21 balls, and Travis Head scored 46 runs off 21 balls. Nitish Kumar contributed 39 runs.

For Kolkata, Blessing Muzarabani took 4 wickets in 4 overs conceding 41 runs. Vaibhav Arora took 2 wickets, while Kartik Tyagi and Anukul Roy took 1 wicket each.

With this first win of the tournament, Hyderabad gained 2 points and moved up to sixth place, while Kolkata remained winless and dropped to ninth place after consecutive defeats.
