March 22, Kathmandu – The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Rekha Sharma from custody to allow further investigation. She had been detained by police on allegations related to offenses involving children. Sharma was accused of keeping a minor child at her home and subjecting her to child labor.
The case file, initially prepared with a recommendation from the District Government Attorney’s Office in Kathmandu to discontinue proceedings, was forwarded through the Senior Government Attorney’s Office to the Attorney General’s Office. Since a decision had already been made that the case did not require prosecution, Judge Jagat Bahadur Paudel of the Kathmandu District Court ordered Sharma’s release from custody to facilitate further investigation.
