Government Warns of Penalties for Failure to Reserve Mandatory Seats on Public Transport

March 27, Kathmandu – The government has announced penalties for public transport operators who do not reserve mandatory seats. The Department of Transport Management issued a notice on Friday warning of such enforcement actions. Passenger vehicles are required to reserve four seats for persons with disabilities and two seats for women. The department issued the warning because many long- and short-distance vehicles have failed to comply with this requirement.
The department also clarified that for long-distance transport services, seats must be reserved at least four hours before departure to the destination. Additionally, the department reiterated this regulation in the context of recent fare hikes for public transportation services.
