Committee Formed to Investigate Irregularities in Medicine Price Setting

The Ministry of Health and Population has established a committee to investigate allegations of unauthorized increases in medicine prices without following the legal procedures. Following a complaint received by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the committee was formed under the leadership of Dr. Shrikrishna Shrestha. The committee is required to submit a report on the irregular price hikes within seven days. Kathmandu, 27 Chaitra.

Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Director General of the Department of Drug Administration, had made decisions to raise medicine prices without completing the legal process. Upon receiving a complaint on Thursday, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers initiated an investigation into individuals involved in the unlawful price increase, appointing Dr. Shrikrishna Shrestha to head the committee. The committee has been given a seven-day deadline to submit its findings.

The committee members are as follows:

Gopikrishna Regmi – Legal Branch, Ministry of Health and Population (Member)
Kavin Maleku – Subject Expert (Member)
