The new version of the Linux kernel, ‘Linux 7.0’, has been officially released. Linus Torvalds upgraded the kernel version number from the previous release ‘6.19’ to 7.0 with this latest update. This new kernel includes a self-healing XFS file system, new AI agent interaction capabilities, enhanced hardware support, and security improvements. It is set to serve as the primary foundation for the upcoming ‘Ubuntu 26.04 LTS’.
The key features of this version are expected to take computer performance and security to a new level. The self-healing XFS file system can detect and automatically repair minor errors, significantly reducing the risk of data loss.
For AI agent interaction, new HID codes for keyboard buttons have been added to facilitate seamless communication with AI agents on future laptops. The expanded hardware support now fully covers Intel’s ‘Nova Lake’ and ‘Crescent Island’ platforms, along with new AMD graphics cards.
Special attention has also been given to security and performance enhancements. A long-standing security flaw in the X.509 certificate code has been fixed, and several technical issues affecting AMD Zen 3 processors have been resolved. Additionally, driver support for Asus devices has been integrated into the Armory driver, benefiting gaming laptop users. Following the release of Linux 7.0, development on version 7.1 has already begun.
