94% Progress Achieved in New Parliament Building Construction; Speaker Directs for Early Completion

Construction of the new parliament building at Singhdurbar has reached 94 percent completion. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has instructed for the construction work to be completed promptly. The contract to construct the parliament building was signed with Tundi Sheikh JV on October 4, 2019 (Ashoj 18, 2076 BS) for NPR 794 million. For the building’s interior, a contract worth NPR 234 million was awarded to KC Shyamsundar Bania JV, and Channelink Engineering was contracted for NPR 38 million for the roofing work.
On Monday, Speaker Aryal held discussions with officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and representatives from the construction companies, directing them to complete the parliament building within the stipulated timeline. The meeting was also attended by National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rubi Kumari Shrestha, and Deputy Chair of the National Assembly Lilakumari Bhandari. Originally, the project aimed for completion within three years; however, the deadline has been extended six times so far. According to the latest agreement, construction is expected to be finalized by May 23, 2024 (Jestha 9, 2081 BS).
