Draft Bill on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Prepared

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has prepared a draft bill on renewable energy and energy efficiency. The ministry has been prioritizing bills related to water resources, electricity, and irrigation development. The draft, prepared under the leadership of Energy Secretary Chiranjivi Chautau, is currently under discussion with stakeholders to finalize its contents. Kathmandu, 1st Baisakh.

The draft bill on renewable energy and energy efficiency has been completed by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. According to the ministry, work is also underway on several other bills. Priority is being given to bills concerning electricity generation related to water resources, as well as irrigation development and management. The government has introduced a 100-point governance reform agenda, which emphasizes lawmaking as a priority.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Energy is placing special focus on legislation related to the sector. Furthermore, the ministry has advanced the electricity policy with the objective of comprehensive sector development and long-term planning. The initial draft prepared by a task force led by Energy Secretary Chiranjivi Chautau is undergoing continuous consultations with relevant stakeholders to be finalized.

To transform the energy, water resources, and irrigation sector into a driving force for the country’s economic prosperity with transformative and rapid impact, the ministry has prepared a draft policy and program for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84, which has been submitted to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The ministry is also continuously engaging with concerned parties to identify existing challenges in the energy, water resources, and irrigation sectors and to gather suggestions for solutions.
