Government Decides to Appoint Revenue Employees and Treasury Controllers as Excise Officers Simultaneously

The government has decided to appoint employees from various levels of the Inland Revenue Department and the heads of 52 treasury and accounting controller offices as excise officers simultaneously. The Cabinet meeting stated that the appointment process of officers to handle excise-related duties under the Excise Act 2058 is a regular procedure. The responsibilities previously managed by 36 revenue offices, which were abolished by the previous government, will now be assigned to the treasury controller offices. April 15, Kathmandu.

The Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday made this decision. According to Treasury Ministry spokesperson Tank Prasad Pandey, “The government appoints officers to carry out excise-related work as per the Excise Act 2058. This is a routine process.” However, this time, following the previous government’s abolition of 36 revenue offices, the tasks from those offices have been reassigned to various treasury controllers.

The government has now decided to appoint the heads of the assigned treasury controller offices as excise officers all at once. Pandey further explained, “Officers not appointed as excise officers under the Act do not hold the authority to execute related tasks.” The Cabinet decision outlines that deputy directors, directors, and branch officers of the Inland Revenue Department; chief tax administrators, chief tax officers, and tax officers at the Large Taxpayer and Medium Taxpayer offices; chief tax officers and tax officers at the Inland Revenue Offices; and the heads of 52 treasury and accounting controller offices will be appointed as excise officers based on their designated jurisdictions.
