Macron Urges Hezbollah to Disarm and Israel to Respect Lebanon’s Sovereignty Amid Ceasefire Support

April 17, Kathmandu – French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed support for the recently established 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon. He has also called for caution moving forward. “I express my concern that if military operations continue, the ceasefire could be weakened,” he stated. Macron appealed for the safety of civilians on both sides along the Lebanon-Israel border. He further emphasized, “Hezbollah must lay down its arms. Israel must respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and the war must end.” On Friday, President Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are set to co-chair a virtual meeting of 40 countries in Paris. The objective of this meeting is to establish a multilateral mission to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
