Mahalaxmi Municipality Wins President’s Running Shield for Third Consecutive Time

April 20, Dhankuta – Mahalaxmi Municipality has emerged victorious in the 16th District-Level President’s Running Shield Competition 2082 held in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality, Dhankuta. Securing 32 gold, 26 silver, and 22 bronze medals, Mahalaxmi Municipality claimed the championship title.

Organized by Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality and coordinated by Bhanu Secondary School, Dandabazar, the competition saw Mahalaxmi Municipality outshine six other local units in the district. Navin Pradhan, Head of the District Sports Development Committee office, confirmed that this marks Mahalaxmi’s third consecutive win of the President’s Running Shield.

Dhankuta Municipality finished second with 16 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze medals, while Chaubise Rural Municipality secured third place with 10 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Athletes from the schools of the top three local levels were awarded prizes and shields by Indramani Parajuli, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province.

Under the motto “Sports for Health, Sports for the Nation,” nearly 500 players from all seven local units of Dhankuta participated in the event. The competition featured contests for 66 gold medals across athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, karate, wushu, and taekwondo.

Previously, in the 15th edition of the President’s Running Shield Competition 2081, coordinated by Chaubise Rural Municipality and managed by Punya Secondary School in Rajarani, Mahalaxmi Municipality took first place with 31 gold, 25 silver, and 8 bronze medals. Likewise, in the 14th edition held at Damar Playground in Mahalaxmi Municipality in 2080, Mahalaxmi collected a total of 81 medals, comprising 33 gold, 21 silver, and 27 bronze.

According to the organizers, Dhankuta Municipality will coordinate the 18th edition of the President’s Running Shield Competition 2083.
