Donald Trump: What We Know About the Suspect Who Fired Shots at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner

After gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where Donald Trump was attending for the first time as President, the FBI and police have launched a search operation at a location in Torrance, California.
Due to security concerns, President Trump was moved to a secure area during the annual event attended by journalists reporting on the White House.
Shortly after, President Trump informed that the suspect was armed and had been apprehended with more than one weapon.
He praised the security personnel who successfully neutralized the attacker.
Officials have stated that investigations into the attacker’s motives and background are underway.

This is the third incident targeting Trump in which shots were fired or an attempt was made to fire at him.
The event was held at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, with President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and several senior officials in attendance.
According to President Trump, the armed individual tried to disrupt the security checkpoint at the event venue.
There was confusion and loud noises as gunfire erupted during the dinner attended by the President and most of his Cabinet members.
Local sources report that one Secret Service agent was injured but is not in serious condition.

President Trump said after the event, “Is there anything more dangerous in the world? I don’t think so. The attacker who tried to take my life was targeting me.”
Who Is the Suspect Taken into Custody?
U.S. media report that the suspect who fired the shots is Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old resident of Torrance, California.

Washington D.C. Police Chief Jeffrey W. Carroll stated that the suspect was a guest at the hotel hosting the event. His room has been sealed off by security officials.
Police have confirmed no other threats exist and have enhanced security deployments.
Judges from the District of Columbia are expected to bring the suspect to a federal court on Monday.
According to CBS News, the suspect admitted to targeting officials connected to President Trump.
Two unnamed sources report that between five and eight shots were fired during the incident.
Torrance is located in the southwest region of Los Angeles, and the suspect is its resident. He reportedly graduated from the California Institute of Technology and had been working as a teacher.
Authorities have recovered firearms and knives from the suspect’s possession.

The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner is organized by the White House Correspondents’ Association, a group of journalists who cover the White House. It has long attracted high-ranking government officials and prominent figures.
Washington hosts a variety of ambassadorial and institutional dinners throughout the week.
However, the main purpose of this event is to raise funds for sharp journalism students across the country. These students, guided by members of the Association, learn to report directly from the White House and are also invited to attend the dinner.
Bernard Debussemen Jr., a BBC White House correspondent, said, “This year, I was a mentor for a student for the second time; she was bright and cheerful.”
“They told me although they were anxious, everyone was safe. No one imagined the dinner would turn into a shooting incident so suddenly.”
