Demand for Immediate Release of Report on September 8-9 Events and Monitoring of Landless Displaced Persons’ Conditions

The Nepal Student Union has called for the immediate public disclosure of the National Human Rights Commission’s study report on the events of September 8-9 (23-24 Bhadau). Although the Commission submitted the report on March 19 (6 Chait), it has yet to be made public, raising concerns over constitutional obligations and transparency, the Union stated.

Following the eviction of landless displaced communities, affected citizens have reportedly been deprived of even minimal humanitarian services, with holding centers remaining disorganized, the Union informed the Commission. Kathmandu, April 3 (21 Baisakh). The Nepal Student Union (NSU) submitted a letter of concern to Murari Prasad Kharel, Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, urging the immediate release of the Commission’s study report on the September 8-9 incidents.

In the letter handed over today by the NSU central office in Kathmandu, strong objection was expressed that despite the investigation team formed by the Commission submitting its findings on March 19, the report remains undisclosed. The letter emphasized that withholding the report seriously undermines the Commission’s constitutional duties, transparency, and accountability.
