Non-Resident Nepalis in the US Hope for an Environment Where Future Generations Take Pride in Their Roots

April 8, New York – Non-resident Nepalis in Ohio expressed their appreciation for the establishment of a special desk for citizens of Nepali origin at Tribhuvan International Airport. The Association of Nepali Origin (ANO), during an event, thanked the Nepalese government for setting up a designated desk for Nepali-origin citizens in the arrival and departure terminals of Kathmandu Airport. ANO President Dilli Adhikari presented a letter of gratitude to Nepali Acting Ambassador to the US, Sharad Raj Aran, during the ceremony. Nepal’s government decided on Chaitra 8 (around March 21) to set up a dedicated desk for citizens of Nepali origin at Tribhuvan International Airport.
The letter of thanks stated, “This step taken by the government, sincerely responding to ANO’s special initiative and request, has further deepened the trust and sense of belonging among Nepali-origin communities scattered worldwide towards their motherland and fatherland.” It emphasized that this connection is not limited to geographical borders or passports. “It is an unbreakable bond tied to our ancestors’ history, our identity, and emotional existence. The warm welcome and respect offered by our own country from the moment we step into the airport is not only a convenience but also instills a heartfelt sense that Nepal is with us wherever we are,” the letter added. “This decision has provided new energy and motivation for our common campaign to connect Nepali-origin people with Nepal. We believe it will create an environment where future generations will take pride in their roots and homeland.”
During the event, concerns were raised about discrimination against Nepali-origin citizens in the first draft of the Non-Resident Nepali Related Bill 2082. President Adhikari handed over a letter to the Acting Ambassador highlighting the issue. The letter emphasized that, regardless of the country of birth, Nepali-origin individuals worldwide should be issued Nepali Origin Identity Cards by the government of Nepal without discrimination.
