Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality Launches Campaign to Declare It Caste-Based Discrimination-Free

Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality in Udayapur has initiated a campaign to officially declare itself free from caste-based discrimination and untouchability. Mayor Kaluman Lama formally announced the municipality as untouchability-free. The municipality has also enacted the Dalit Empowerment Act to end caste-based discrimination. April 26, Kathmandu.
The campaign titled “Our Concern, Our Commitment: Caste-Based Discrimination-Free Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality” was launched in Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality, Udayapur. During the event held on Saturday at the bus park in Beltar Bazaar, the municipal center, Mayor Kaluman Lama formally proclaimed Chaudandi Gadhi Municipality as free from untouchability.
He emphasized that full cooperation from all wards, all local development organizations, and responsible authorities is essential for the effective implementation of this campaign. The mayor also informed that the municipality has passed the Dalit Empowerment Act to eradicate caste-based discrimination and untouchability. Participants at the event expressed the view that ending caste-based discrimination requires collaboration between local government, political parties, civil society, and community members.
