Deputy Speaker Thakur Affirms Chief Justice Recommendation Based on Competence

April 26, Kathmandu – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rubi Kumari Thakur has asserted that the recommendation for the Chief Justice was made based on competence. Responding via Facebook on Saturday, she emphasized that there is no need for any reservations or doubts regarding this matter. “The public has long complained about the judiciary — that cases take many years to be decided,” Deputy Speaker Thakur stated. “Excessive delays in judicial decisions constitute a serious problem for the judicial system.”
She explained that when appointments are made on the basis of party affiliation rather than merit and capability, there is an increased likelihood of negative consequences. “The appointment of the Chief Justice was based on an evaluation of competence. There should be no ifs or buts about this,” she wrote. Thakur stressed that all branches of the state must operate in the interest of the country, the people, and the nation. “Constitution, law, and public interest must take precedence over anyone’s directives or orders. An impartial, competent, and responsible judiciary is the true foundation of democracy,” she added.
In her Facebook post, she also included a screenshot of a commentary prepared by ChatGPT concerning the candidates for Chief Justice.
