International Flight Landings Disrupted Due to Fire on Turkish Airlines Aircraft

April 11, Kathmandu – International flight landings have been disrupted in Kathmandu after a Turkish Airlines plane caught fire during its landing, causing a blockage on the main runway. The aircraft remained stuck on the runway, affecting the regular schedule of large international flights. Gyanendra Bhul, Information Officer at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), stated, ‘Landing operations are currently suspended. The aircraft is being moved from the runway to the taxiway while passengers are being rescued.’
The TK726 flight from Istanbul to Kathmandu caught fire on its wheel around 6:45 AM during landing. The fire was extinguished with the assistance of the fire department. Passengers were evacuated through emergency exits. There were 277 passengers on board, including four children, all reportedly safe. Some passengers sustained hand injuries during the rescue operation. It was also reported that alongside the aircraft, some cargo and a few bodies were present.
