Prachanda Tells Rastriya Swatantra Party: Despite Winning Many Votes Like You, I Remained a Grounded Leader, Not Defeated in the Fray

The Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party, Prachanda, recalled in the House of Representatives meeting his experience of not being able to retain power despite receiving votes similar to those of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the 2008 elections. Kathmandu, 29th Baisakh. Prachanda shared his past experience with RSP, which formed a single-party government.
During Tuesday’s House meeting, he reminded members that in the 2008 election he received votes comparable to those currently garnered by the RSP but was unable to secure power. “In 2008, I was a leader who, despite winning many votes like you, was grounded in the dirt, not defeated in the fray. It’s harder to bear defeat than victory,” he said. “Until recently, we were roughly at your level. Due to our own weaknesses, we could not maintain the people’s trust. History teaches us that numbers are not permanent; rest assured. Public support is conditional. If things do not go as expected the next day, there will be consequences. Learn from us. Here, there must be no banishment, humiliation, or revenge. Trust and cooperation must be the priority.”
