Jose Mourinho Nears Final Stage of Appointment as Real Madrid Head Coach

Jose Mourinho is in the final stages of becoming the head coach of Real Madrid again after 13 years. The 63-year-old has been the club’s top choice for the new managerial position. Currently, Mourinho is the coach of the Portuguese club Benfica. He signed a two-year contract with the club last September but has not commented on his future ambitions so far. It is expected that a decision regarding this matter will be made only after Benfica’s final match on Saturday.

Mourinho’s contract includes an option to leave the club within 10 days after the final match by paying approximately 3 million euros. He previously managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, during which time he led the team to victories in the Spanish League, Spanish Cup, and Spanish Super Cup. This season, Real Madrid has yet to secure any trophies. After Barcelona won La Liga, Real Madrid lagged behind by 14 points. The team was also eliminated in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Meanwhile, club president Florentino Perez is reportedly considering making an official announcement about Mourinho’s possible return.
