Severe Damage Caused by Storm and Hailstorm in Chanukanda, Doti

April 13, Doti – A powerful storm accompanied by hail struck Chanukanda, Ward No. 7 of Bogtan Foodsil Rural Municipality in Doti late Wednesday night around 9:30 PM, causing significant physical damage. The incident resulted in extensive destruction to one school building and dozens of houses in the area. Naresh Bam, chairman of the school management committee at Chanukanda Basic School, reported that the storm blew off the roofs of two school buildings.
According to him, the roofs of the administrative block and the computer room building were completely torn away. “After the administrative building’s roof was blown off, important documents stored there were damaged, and several books were destroyed,” said Chairman Bam. He added, “Computers, printers, and furniture in the computer room also sustained severe damage.” He further revealed that the rooftops were scattered hundreds of meters away.
He also mentioned that many houses in the surrounding village had their roofs blown away. “Almost all tin-sheet roofs have been lost. The roofs made of straw and stone were also damaged. Following the roof destruction, the hailstorm caused extensive and severe damage,” he explained. Chairman Bam noted that as it was nighttime at the time of the incident, a comprehensive damage assessment has yet to be completed. “While there is significant material damage, no human casualties have been reported so far,” he emphasized.
