In an impressive performance, the Nepal national cricket team defeated top-ranking Scotland by 6 wickets and has ascended into the top 5 of the ICC World Cup League 2 standings.
Thanks to the spin magic of Sandeep Lamichhane and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, Nepal restricted the opposition to 194 runs in 39.1 overs. Later, half-centuries from captain Rohit Paudel and Ishan Pande helped Nepal achieve the target in 38.1 overs.
This marks the first time the Nepalese side, which had previously struggled at the bottom of the League 2 series, has broken into the top 5 positions.
With today’s 2 points, Nepal now equals Namibia in fifth place on the table.
Namibia and Nepal both have 22 points, but Nepal leads on net run rate, pushing Namibia down to sixth position.
Canada has slipped to seventh with 21 points from 24 matches, while the UAE at the bottom has 14 points.

Crucial Points Secured Without Pressure

Securing an effortless victory against Scotland, who lead the table with 38 points, was a highly positive outcome for Nepal.
After a smart opening stand of 58 runs, a misunderstanding between opener partners Kushal Bhurtel (28 runs) and Ashif Sheikh (29 runs) resulted in Ashif being run out.
Soon after, the innings lost momentum with Kushal dismissed LBW.
However, this did not change the course of the game. Left-hander Ishan Pande and captain Rohit Paudel controlled the innings easily and steered the team to victory.
Playing his second match in the national jersey, Ishan scored his maiden half-century, facing 61 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes before being caught ‘cut and bowled’ by Mark Watt.
Captain Rohit, showing patience, also reached a half-century, his 12th in One Day Internationals, playing 78 balls and remaining unbeaten on 74 runs.
Spin Bowlers Hold the Key
The decision to bat first after winning the toss was countered effectively by Nepal’s spin bowlers.
During the initial powerplay, Scotland’s batsmen appeared aggressive, particularly Brandon McMullen, who impressed with 73 runs off 44 balls.
Yet, as the Nepal spin bowlers gained the upper hand, Scotland’s scoring rate slowed down substantially.
Following McMullen’s dismissal, Scottish wickets began to fall rapidly, and the team was bowled out before completing 40 overs.
Thus, Scotland, who once appeared likely to post a large total, were restricted to under 200 runs.
Off-spinner Dipendra Singh Aire accounted for one wicket, Sandeep took three, and Lalit claimed the highest tally of four wickets.
Mitchell Inglis also scored a half-century for Scotland, making 51 runs.

Sandeep Sets New Record
Sandeep Lamichhane has set a world record for being the fastest bowler to take 150 wickets in One Day International (ODI) cricket.
He reached this milestone in just 73 innings, breaking the previous record held by Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who took 77 innings to achieve the same.
Sandeep reached 149 wickets when he bowled out opener George Munsey in his first over, and claimed his record-breaking wicket by dismissing Brandon McMullen.
He also caught out McMullen off a catch from Ishan Pande, and later bowled Mitchell Lisk to reach three wickets in the match.
Meanwhile, Lalit crossed 50 ODI wickets with his performance in Monday’s game.
