Russia and China Warn Japan’s Military Expansion Poses Serious Threat to Regional Peace and Stability

In a joint statement, Russia and China highlighted that Japan’s rapid militarization presents a ‘serious threat’ to regional peace and stability. The statement called on the Japanese government to learn from its aggressive history, fully accept the outcomes of World War II, and renounce any form of new militarism. Kathmandu, 20 May – Russia and China, in a joint declaration referring directly to Japan, stated that Japan’s accelerated military buildup has created a ‘serious threat’ to peace and stability in the region. The statement urged, ‘We call on the Japanese government to learn from its inhumane aggressive past, fully accept the consequences of World War II, and refrain from new militarism and remilitarization.’
