Google Unveils New Search Engine and AI Agent ‘Spark’ Featuring ‘Gemini 3.5 Flash’

Google has transformed its search engine into an artificial intelligence agent, eliminating the need for users to repeatedly “Google” information. At its annual conference, the company announced the integration of Gemini AI, a new search engine, and other services with game-changing AI capabilities. This technology is expected to pose a strong challenge to competitors like Anthropic and OpenAI. It represents the most significant update to the Google Search bar in the past 25 years. The new search box will function as an independent AI agent for users.
Google’s fast-running ‘Gemini 3.5 Flash’ model can easily comprehend lengthy and conversational queries. With this technology, users can create a 24/7 active “information agent” in the background. For example, if you instruct, “Inform me when my favorite player releases new shoes,” Google’s AI will automatically search various blogs, news sources, and social media to provide timely updates.
Within Gemini AI, Google has introduced a new mode called ‘Spark’ that can operate ‘autonomously’ for extended periods without user commands. This feature continuously monitors items such as credit card statements or email inboxes to generate summaries of important updates or necessary task lists. Spark will be able to integrate data across multiple apps, including Google Docs, Gmail, and Snapshots. Even when a laptop is turned off or a phone is locked, this AI agent will remain active in the background.
Google views these AI agents as a stepping stone toward its grand ambition of achieving ‘Artificial General Intelligence.’ According to Koray Kavukcuoglu, Chief AI Architect at Google DeepMind, current AI models are somewhat “static,” but in the future, AI will be capable of self-updating its intelligence. Recent data shows that in the United States, Anthropic holds 34.4% and OpenAI 32.3% of paid commercial AI subscriptions, while Google’s share is only 4.5%. However, CEO Sundar Pichai states that Gemini now has over 900 million active users.
