
Nepalese Olympian runner Santoshi Shrestha has established a new national record in the 1500 meters race with a time of 4 minutes 27.35 seconds. This achievement marks her seventh national record broken within the same year, earning her the title of ‘Record Girl.’ Santoshi participated in the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation competition held in Jharkhand, India.
Known by the nickname ‘Golden Girl,’ Santoshi surpassed the previous national record in the 1500 meters on Saturday. She completed the distance in 4 minutes 27.35 seconds, breaking Saraswati Bhattarai’s 2016 record of 4 minutes 33.94 seconds. Santoshi improved the national record by 6.59 seconds.
According to her brother, Kedar Shrestha, she was invited by the Athletics Federation of India and participated in the event with the recommendation of the Nepal Athletics Association. Prior to this, she had broken a 35-year-old national record in the women’s 3000 meters race in Pokhara, setting a new benchmark. In 2019, at the 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu, Santoshi made history as the first female athlete from Nepal to win a gold medal in athletics.
