Protest Erupts in Siraha’s Jiromail Against Decision to Close Choti Customs Office

Local residents and traders in Siraha have staged a road blockade protest at Jiromail Chowk against the Nepal government’s decision to close the Choti Customs office located in Bariyarpatti. The government announced the closure through a notice published in the official gazette dated 21 Baishakh 2083, sparking unrest among the local community.

On 11 Jestha, Siraha – Residents, businesspeople, and representatives from various political parties gathered at Jiromail Chowk in Dhangadhimai Municipality Ward No. 9 to protest the government’s decision to shut down the Choti Customs office in Bariyarpatti. They demanded the reversal of the closure decision. The Nepal government had officially notified the closure in the gazette published on 21 Baishakh 2083, which led to widespread dissatisfaction among the locals. Prior to this, a phased protest was carried out from 25 to 27 Baishakh.
