Gorkha Cup Football Tournament Concludes in the UK with Rangvang and Tamang Societies Claiming Titles

The 24th edition of the Gorkha Cup football tournament took place in the United Kingdom, drawing nearly 20,000 spectators and featuring 56 teams. In the men’s category, Rangvang Society UK secured the championship along with a prize of £3,500, while Guruji Elite finished as runners-up. In the women’s category, Tamang Society FC won the title, and FC 04 claimed the veterans’ championship. The event was held on May 23 in London.
The significant football event within the Nepalese community in the UK reached its 24th iteration on Sunday, attracting about 20,000 attendees. Fifty-six teams competed at the Queen’s Avenue ground in Aldershot. Rangvang Society UK delivered an outstanding performance in the men’s (youth) final, earning the championship along with a cash prize of £3,500, a trophy, and a certificate.
Guruji Elite took second place in the men’s category, receiving £2,000 in prize money, as well as a trophy and certificate. In the veterans’ category, FC 04 won the title, with Plumstead FC as runners-up; the winners and runners-up received £1,800 and £1,200 respectively. In the women’s competition, Tamang Society FC claimed the championship, while Roundbolt FC was the runner-up, with the winners awarded £600 and the runners-up £400.
This year’s tournament extended beyond football, hosting a variety of additional activities. The venue featured 126 stalls offering food, charity events, ice cream, cakes, bubble tea, clothing, and more. A dedicated ‘Fun Fair’ was also organized for children. The awards ceremony included chief guest Callum Stewart, Jumkaji Gurung, chairperson of Tamudhi UK, Dr. Hemraj Sharma, and others who presented the prizes. Organizers Tamudhi UK expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success.
