China Voices Discontent Over Quad Meeting, Urges Regional Cooperation Not to Target Third Parties

May 26, Kathmandu – China has reiterated its longstanding discontent with the ‘Quad’ group comprising Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. The Chinese government emphasized that any cooperation or agreements among countries should contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity, but must not target any third party. Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a press conference that China wishes to make clear it does not support any particular group or bloc. She specifically stressed that collaboration among countries should not undermine mutual trust and cooperation among regional nations.
On Tuesday, the foreign ministers of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States met in India and voiced their opposition to China’s remarks. During the meeting, leaders of the four countries agreed to jointly construct a port in the Pacific island nation of Fiji. They also signed various agreements concerning critical minerals and energy security.
