Chinese Manufacturer SDLG Enters Nepalese Market with Electric Loaders, Plans Expansion in South Asia

Chinese construction equipment manufacturer SDLG has entered Nepal’s electric construction machinery sector by launching eco-friendly and cost-effective electric loaders. SDLG General Manager Si Dong stated that if the electric loaders succeed in Nepal, the company aims to use Nepal as a model market for expansion into Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. He noted that the high initial purchase cost and lack of charging infrastructure remain the key challenges for electric loaders in Nepal. With Nepal progressing toward green infrastructure and sustainable construction practices, global construction equipment producers are increasingly viewing the country as a promising market for electric heavy machinery.
SDLG aims to introduce a more environmentally friendly and economical alternative to conventional diesel-powered machines with its electric loaders in Nepal. During a recent visit to Nepal, General Manager Si Dong shared insights on the company’s ambitions, the future of electric construction machinery, infrastructure and pricing challenges, and the potential for Nepal to become a gateway for the firm’s expansion into South Asian markets.
Si Dong expressed confidence in SDLG’s long-term vision, advances in electric loader technology, and Nepal’s potential adoption of green construction solutions in coming years. “We have already introduced three models here and are receiving positive feedback from the market,” he said. He believes the success of electric loaders in Nepal could set an example for markets in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
Addressing challenges, Dong said, “The greatest hurdle lies in the initial cost and access to infrastructure.” He explained that before entering the Nepalese market, SDLG conducted thorough research and developed a business plan based on an understanding of customer needs. He also revealed plans to supply larger volumes in future for local infrastructure projects.
