US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Highlights Decisive Role of Military and Economic Pressure in Bringing Iran to Negotiations

May 29, Kathmandu – US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that military operations and economic sanctions have played a crucial role in compelling Iran to come to the negotiating table. Speaking amid ongoing talks regarding a potential agreement between the US and Iran, Secretary Bessent shared his perspective on the matter. He mentioned that the easing of sanctions on Iran and the release of frozen assets are progressing slowly.
During a press briefing at the White House on Thursday, Secretary Bessent emphasized that military actions taken by the US and its allies, combined with stringent economic sanctions, created the pressure necessary to push Iran toward negotiations. He also indicated that the likelihood of an agreement between the two nations is increasing. However, he clarified that the final decision rests with US President Donald Trump.
