May 29, Kathmandu – Amid the ongoing Republic Day 2083 main ceremony at the Tudikhel Army Stage, a soldier suddenly collapsed while on duty.
The soldier, who fainted without warning, was quickly helped up by nearby comrades and escorted to the Army’s medical treatment area located on-site. He was able to walk with assistance to the treatment facility.
Nepal Army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet explained that the soldier collapsed due to his legs locking up while standing still. “Sometimes this happens when the body’s water content is low; other times, it occurs because the legs cramp,” Basnet said. “His legs had locked. He was conscious and, as you may have seen, walked to the treatment area on his own.”
Basnet confirmed that the soldier’s health condition is stable. The identity of the soldier has not been disclosed.
