May 29, Kathmandu – Following Lucknow Super Giants’ last-place finish in the 2026 IPL season, Rishabh Pant has stepped down from his role as captain.

Lucknow confirmed via social media that Pant informed the franchise of his decision on Friday. A statement from the club, including Cricket Director Tom Moody, read: “Rishabh approached the franchise with this request, which we have respectfully accepted. These decisions are never easy. We are grateful for everything Rishabh has brought to the dressing room as captain.”

During IPL 2026, Lucknow won only four out of 14 matches, finishing at the bottom of the table. Pant was signed in the previous season for 270 million INR and served as the team’s captain for both 2025 and 2026 seasons.

Under his leadership, the team secured 10 victories and suffered 18 defeats. Lucknow finished seventh in 2025 and last in the recent season, marking a disappointing performance overall.

Pant’s individual performance also declined in both seasons, scoring 269 runs in 2025 and 312 runs in 2026.
