May 30, Kathmandu – Youth and student members of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) staged a torch rally in Kathmandu protesting remarks made by Prime Minister Balen Shah.
During a Sunday session addressing questions from parliamentarians, Prime Minister Shah claimed that Nepal had also encroached upon Indian territory.
The CPN-UML has demanded that the Prime Minister’s statement be expunged from the records of parliament.
On the evening of Sunday, the UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) and National Youth Union of Nepal held the torch rally on Exhibition Road to voice their opposition to the Prime Minister’s comments.
Participants carried placards with slogans such as “Greater Nepal when mayor, opportunism as Prime Minister, end the double standard,” and “Sitting on the chair, you cannot disgrace the country; treacherous remarks will not be tolerated.”
