People’s Daily: AI Opens New Horizons for Collaboration with the United States

The Chinese Communist Party’s official newspaper, People’s Daily, has described artificial intelligence as a new horizon for collaboration with the United States. According to an understanding between the Chinese and American presidents, both countries have agreed to establish a government-level dialogue mechanism in the field of AI technology. China criticized US controls on chip exports, alleging an attempt to politicize AI technology and use it as a weapon.
May 31, Kathmandu – People’s Daily has defined artificial intelligence (AI) as a “new horizon” for cooperation with the United States. In an editorial published Monday, the newspaper outlined Beijing’s clear perspective on how AI technology can connect the bilateral relations between the two nations. This commentary comes against the backdrop of an agreement reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump during Trump’s visit to China last month.
The editorial states that the world does not want any kind of “iron curtain” in the AI sector or attempts to divide this technology among competing power centers. Instead of turning AI into a new front of complete technological decoupling, the Chinese media argues that it should be considered a field where competition and cooperation can advance simultaneously.
