
Police have arrested five individuals from various locations across the Kathmandu Valley on charges of fraudulently enticing people with promises of foreign employment. The suspects allegedly scammed victims out of NPR 19,963,000 by claiming they could send them to countries including Croatia, Serbia, the United States, and South Korea. The arrests were made by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office following complaints filed by the victims.
Kathmandu, 18 Jestha – Five individuals have been taken into custody for defrauding large sums by promising lucrative foreign job opportunities. According to the Central Police Information Desk, the arrested include 46-year-old Krishnakumar Khadka from Budhanilkantha Municipality–11, Kathmandu; 40-year-old Bhagirathi (Parajuli) Gautam from Mahalaxmi Municipality–2, Lalitpur, originally from Sindhuli; 30-year-old Pravesh Parajuli from Budhanilkantha Municipality–9, Kathmandu, originally from Sunsari; 39-year-old Prajwal Acharya from Kathmandu Metropolitan City–6; and 47-year-old Nisha Siva from Budhanilkantha Municipality–10, Kathmandu, originally from Jhapa.
Of the accused, Krishnakumar and Bhagirathi are alleged to have defrauded 14 victims of NPR 5,868,000 by promising placements in Croatia, Greece, and other countries. Pravesh reportedly deceived four victims of NPR 1,890,000 with offers to send them to Serbia, while Prajwal defrauded one victim of NPR 3,100,000 with promises of jobs in the United States. Nisha is accused of taking NPR 105,000 from one victim under the pretense of sending them to South Korea before going out of contact. The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku arrested the suspects following the formal complaints lodged by the victims.
