18 Jestha, Kathmandu – The ICC Board meeting has approved the proposal to organize a Global Qualifier for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
ICC management has been instructed to finalize the competition structure and qualification process of the Global Qualifier, which will feature 16 participating teams.
The prepared proposal will be submitted to the relevant committees in the forthcoming ICC meeting for discussion and approval.
With this decision, teams that previously advanced directly from different regional qualifying tournaments will now have a pathway through a separate Global Qualifier to secure their spot in the T20 World Cup.
In the past two editions, teams qualified directly through regional qualifiers. Notably, Nepal secured their place in the 2026 World Cup by winning the Asia-EAP qualifier.
Similarly, for the 2024 World Cup, Nepal qualified through the Asia regional qualifiers. However, the most recent T20 World Cup in 2022 featured a Global Qualifier stage.
In the 2022 qualifier, Nepal was eliminated in the semifinals.
