Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal: Nepal Must Inclusively Embrace People of Nepali Origin Worldwide

May 31, Kathmandu – Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal emphasized that Nepal should inclusively accommodate people of Nepali origin living across the globe in a broad and distinctive manner. On Monday, he met with a delegation from the Association of Nepali Origin (ANO), an umbrella organization representing Nepali-origin citizens, at his office in Singha Durbar to discuss this matter.
Speaker Aryal underscored the necessity of formulating laws aligned with Nepal’s national interests that address issues pertaining to people of Nepali origin. During the meeting, ANO Vice President and senior advocate Sushil Kumar Pant highlighted ANO’s active role in fostering an environment that culturally connects Nepali-origin individuals to Nepal, regardless of their generation or location, and helps preserve their Nepali identity.
Pant also requested that suggestions submitted by ANO—particularly regarding the definition of persons of Nepali origin—be incorporated into the draft Non-Resident Nepali-related Act currently under discussion. The delegation handed over a memorandum prepared by ANO to Speaker Aryal. The memorandum pointed out that several provisions in the draft Act were irrelevant, impractical, and insufficient to connect Nepalis living abroad for generations with Nepal, urging the removal of such clauses. Previously, the ANO delegation had also met with Foreign Secretary Amrit Rai to submit their recommendations for inclusion in the Act.
