
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un welcomed home the players who returned victorious after winning the Asian Women’s Champions League in Pyongyang. Official television broadcast on June 2 showed emotional scenes of the winning team players and the Under-17 national team players shedding tears during their meeting with Kim.
The Negohyang Women’s Football Club won the competition held in South Korea, earning qualification for next year’s FIFA Women’s Champions Cup. The club defeated a Japanese team in the final match. Meanwhile, North Korea’s Under-17 national team also claimed victory in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup held in May.
