Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez Holds Formal Talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

May 21, Kathmandu — During her visit to India, Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. This significant meeting took place on Thursday as part of her five-day visit to India.

Randeep Jayaswal, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, stated that the two leaders engaged in extensive discussions on exploring new opportunities to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including energy, trade, investment, healthcare, and the automobile industry. He added, “Both leaders conducted a comprehensive review of all areas of India-Venezuela relations.” They agreed to take necessary initiatives to foster a deeper and more transparent partnership.

Additionally, the discussions covered matters of mutual interest between the two countries as well as regional and global issues of significance. Jayaswal noted that both top leaders expressed a shared commitment toward advancing the interests and progress of the “Global South.”

Venezuela holds the world’s second-largest petroleum reserves. Recently, there were reports that the former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro faced an abduction attempt by the United States in the capital Caracas. Following this, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez assumed the responsibilities as Acting President.
