
22 Jestha, Kathmandu – Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a young woman in Damak, Jhapa, whose body was found wrapped in a sack and disposed of near a creek. The Jhapa District Police Office announced the arrest on Thursday night.
On Jestha 16, the body of a young woman was discovered under the bridge of Ratuwamai Creek in Damak Municipality–10, inside a white sack. The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Roma (Rama) Tiwari from Basant Tole, Damak–8. Her father, Narayan Tiwari, also positively identified the body.
Following the discovery, a joint investigation team from the Koshi Provincial Police Office in Dharan and the Jhapa District Police Office initiated an inquiry. Through detailed surveillance at the crime scene, technical analysis, and examination of CCTV footage, police were able to identify the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Rakesh Kumar Pandit from Araria District, Bihar, India. Currently residing in Damak Municipality–5, Pandit works as a tiles craftsman. He was apprehended from his room around 11 p.m. on Thursday.
During initial questioning, Pandit confessed to the killing. He stated that the murder occurred following a dispute over money. Police have also recovered the T-shirt, pants, shoes worn by the victim, as well as the motorcycle used to transport her body.
