Uncontentious Assembly in Morang, Clashes in Sunsari – District Congress of National Independent Party

May 6, Biratnagar — The Sunsari district assembly of the National Independent Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party) saw clashes, whereas the Morang assembly was completed peacefully. In Morang, vote counting is underway following elections to select new leadership. Bimala Ghimire was elected unopposed as deputy chairperson. For the chairperson position, incumbent Bharat Kandel faces challenges from Koshraj Nirola and Sagar Phuyal.

Meanwhile, at the first Sunsari district assembly held at Laukahi City Hall, physical confrontations took place. The dispute began when organizers attempted to remove young and agitated activists. Some youths protested the removal of committed representatives by staging a sit-in. After they were removed and the electoral process began, the conflict escalated into a physical altercation between two groups. DSP Chandra Khadka, spokesperson for the Sunsari District Police Office, described the incident as a minor dispute, stating that the situation is now under control and voting is continuing. The electoral competition for Sunsari district chairperson includes Sagar Dahal, Mohan Nirola, Chakrabhadur Bisht, and Krishna Rauniyar.
